Monday, October 6 - A great day for golf and the CT Challenge
The clouds cleared at 10am and enthusiasm was high when the golfers teed off at noon. They moved casually and swiftly around the beautiful oceanfront golf course at the Country Club of Fairfield in four hours and then enjoyed cocktails and food in the clubhouse overlooking Long Island Sound. It was a great day of golf, but more importantly, it was another great day for the Connecticut Challenge and for cancer survivors, many of whom played or volunteered for the event. Money was raised and more people were exposed to the message that cancer survivors need on-going support even after they have completed their treatments. Ted Spencer, former lacrosse coach at Fairfield University and a recent survivor of stage four lymphoma, spoke to the group about his year-long cancer journey. He captivated everyone with his description of how he approached his disease and his grueling treatments. Then he asked "what now?" and he spoke about his needs and goals for his life long cancer survivorship journey. It was inspiring and left everyone with a better understanding of the importance of the work supported by the CT Challenge. Click here to see all the photos from the day.
